65 centigrade? Are you confusing power with temperature? Can you point me to this AMD PR?

Re: I know this is the case for notebookprocessors. Maybe I missed this is implemented in Desktop nowadays. But the data I see do not indicate this.

Both Merom (mobile) and Conroe (desktop) have identical cache logic. The difference in power dissipation comes from the fact that Merom has enabled sleep states (C3, C4, and C5 in particular), while Conroe does not enable anything past enhanced HALT (C1E).

The sleep states mentioned here can easily bring idle power dissipation down from ~15W to ~1W. It has nothing to do with the cache.
