They can use it to make a generic version of the drug which can be massed produced at a cheaper cost which will allow it to be sold at a cheaper cost. That is the biggest problem with Gilead's drug it is very expensive to make therefor, making the price in a range where it will not be very profitable for them to mass produce it.
