Gold only protects from paper because of belief in gold's value beyond its application of use and ornament. There is tremendous effort to extract gold for desire to have most of it do nothing but sit around doing nothing but be a representation of value. Paper does the same at much less cost. Same/same in application of value.

I like Silver. It has application and gets used a5 much greater ratio to extraction.
