Yep...and tax day is "on the books" for April 15th...that's a fact....at least until it isn't, right? But hey, there is no chance the govt would change something as written in stone as tax day. Until they say they do. Until that time, we will ASSUME taxes are due on the 15th.

It is not a FACT taxes are due on the 15th until, well, the 15th comes without any change in dates.

So, in summation...

Assumption = using evidence (or not, I suppose) to make a guess about some future event or outcome.

Fact = an event, outcome, or state of measure that is INDISPUTABLY TRUE.

A high probability of a future event is NOT the same as a certainty of a past event, because a "high probability" is NOT the same as a "certainity"

SO...it is a FACT that a meeting and an R/S was announced for March 31st. Past occurrences can be facts, because they are provable beyond question. It is an ASSUMPTION, however (no matter how likely or unlikely the assumption my be), that the meeting will take place, an R/S will occur, that humanity will still exist on the 31st, that the sun will rise tomorrow, etc. No matter how likely those events are to occur, they have not, in reality, happened yet, and therefore cannot be unquestionably proven. Sorry.

No wonder our country is so screwed. The very concept of the difference between a "fact" and an "assumption" is just completely confused.

Science! It's what's for dinner.
