Microsoft was founded in 1972 with a viable product to start. The Traf-O-Data traffic data computer. Then Gates had been working on a basic interpreter by January 1975 when he told MITS that he had a working product and MITS wanted to see it. Gates finished it by March 1975 and gave the demo and made the deal with MITS. So what, maybe a few months of development when their already profitable company became much more profitable.
