If you assume 1/3 of the US population gets infected before a vaccination is developed, a .5% death rate equates to 1.7m people.

Mermelstein - 3% definitely seems high, but i'm not sure it's going to be that low. It's definitely more dangerous than the flu. Guess it really depends on how many people go undiagnosed.

54k have fully recovered.
There are only 6k serious cases worldwide.
There are only 8 serious cases in the US.
