He told me that he had been going to bathroom 7-8x an hour some days! Said it was not uncommon for him to not make it to the bathroom and be excreting blood all over himself and the floor. I would think that he would gladly trade those symptoms he had over any of those side-effects (with the exception of death of course). He couldn't hold down a job, was afraid to leave the house. He said he would fall to his knees with a sudden pain like no other.
