China Deals With Deadliest Day From Coronavirus Nearly 100 people in China died from the coronavirus on Sunday, the country’s deadliest day since the outbreak was first reported in December.

[ READ: WHO Warns of Coronavirus Protective Gear Shortage ] The virus has killed more than 900 people in China and infected over 40,000 more as of Monday morning.
About 2% of cases are fatal, the World Health Organization estimates. In China on Sunday, the virus killed 97 people. It has killed more than the severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, epidemic, which also began in China and killed 774 people in 2002-2003.
Some in China resumed work on Monday following the extended Lunar New Year holiday. China's leader Xi Jinping made a rare public appearance in Beijing on Monday to tour a neighborhood, local government office and hospital, according to state media.
Outside of China, there are 319 cases across 24 countries and one death.
WHO officials on Monday expressed concern over a small number of recent cases in the United Kingdom and France in people who do not have any history of travel to China. This development could indicate that the transmission of the virus in other countries might be more widespread than thought.
[ MORE: Hospital: Chinese Doctor Li Wenliang Succumbs to Coronavirus ] The detection of these cases "could be the spark that becomes a bigger fire," Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO director general, said at a press conference. "But for now, it's only a spark."
A quarantined cruise ship docked at a Japanese port in Yokohama also saw a large jump in its number of cases, going up from 70 to 135 on Monday.
The ship, called the Diamond Princess, contains the largest outbreak outside of China. Passengers who are confirmed to have the virus are taken to the hospital. Japanese health officials said they won't be able to test all 3,700 people on the ship. Passengers are expected to be under quarantine for at least 14 days.
