You are right the domain itself is still active till 02/06/2020 and what was expired is the hosting which was hosted by PINT.com

Geopetro.com hosting was expired, it's automatically will be redirected to original hosting company therefore there isn't any merger here.
PINT.COM confirmed that Geopetro.com is one of their old client.

Time will tell but I will be shocked if this is a merger. I’d say there is a much simpler, common sense explanation.
