Jorobo.....I do not believe Chevron considers using High Technology to be something they or other companies consider to be a threat to themselves. Securing the best places to drill maybe somewhat competitive but the production of oil and gas from wells is not an area of real competition, imo.
Also #3 and # 4 in my post earlier today is further thoughts on this subject:
"3] Competition is mitigated by the fact the software is patented and licensed to MMTIF. So Chevron will help promote the Technology. And that promotion may well include a cash flow consideration to Chevron from the so called competition. This latter is just my speculative opinion.
4] I believe many interested parties have been in the loop of information ever since the SPE Conference in the UAE a couple of years ago. So i expect other companies to use this Technology. "
It has since been revealed that all the companies [over 100] were all invited by Chevron; so they must think they can benefit somehow.
In any case the oil patch on a worldwide basis is so vast that no company is precluded from benefiting successfully,imo.
