well my first thought of an answer to your post was, I thought it was hype to try & get people to answer the call to work, but from your PM, I am like (YIKES) & double (YIKES), the OT involved is incredible, perhaps I should seriously consider calling them.

field tech is a 5 year progression. but certain things will get you started further up that progression. college degree would start you at 2 or 3 years. electrician experience for example would get you to 3 years. now it would only take you 2 years to get to top pay, where somebody that worked in retail their whole life would need 5 years to get to the same pay
