Lawrie Williams: What happens to gold if the Comex collapses?

Dear Friend of GATA and Gold:
Sharps Pixley market analyst Lawrie Williams today explores the analysis of Fraser Murrell about the potential collapse of the gold futures market if physical demand overwhelms paper supply.
Of course in such circumstances the gold price would explode, since, as Williams acknowledges, "the huge volume of paper gold traded on the Comex ... certainly acts as a price control mechanism on the physical metal" -- which is just what the Comex was created to do in 1974:

bigone thank you, I still hope 2019 will be the year of the big breakout for gold?
“In each of the last three years, gold has gotten off to a strong start only to fizzle as the year moved along. Will 2019 be the year gold finally breaks the pattern? A good many investors, fund managers and analysts think that 2019 might very well be the year when gold breaks the restraints and pushes to higher ground. One of those is Carter Worth of Cornerstone Macro in New York who CNBC’s Melissa Lee refers to as “the chart master.” In a recent interview with Lee, Worth referred to a rendition of the long-term chart below saying that there is “a well-defined set-up and a lot of tension.” He says that combination is going to resolve to the upside – “a breakout to all-time highs.” With respect to gold’s relationship to the dollar, Worth says “Gold’s got its own momentum now. . .It is all setting-up for higher gold prices and trouble for equities, trouble for the economy.”

bigone thank you, ex. David Hunter: I’m Still Bullish on Precious Metals & My Gold Target is $1800 3,206 views•Nov 28, 2019 Palisade Radio 12.5K subscribers

David feels that he is one of the more bullish analysts on the street for gold. Gold reached $1560 this year and is nearly finished a consolidation phase. A further rally could happen soon, and he has raised his targets for gold to $1800 and $26 for silver. We will continue into uncharted territory with the Fed’s expanding balance sheet. This additional money is a net positive for the markets, and this melt-up could continue into next year.
Rising stocks continue to produce slingshot pattern. Generally stock has rebounded with support at the 0.236 bottom line of the Fibonacci fan. This means that the stock's correction decline is over and time to rise again. :-))

A Detour Gold mine in Cochrane, Ont. HANDOUT/TIMMINS DAILY PRESS FILES
Toronto-based Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd. on Monday announced a multibillion dollar acquisition of Detour Gold Corp., a deal that would elevate it into a major gold miner and could attract new institutional investors.
The combination marries two near opposites: Kirkland Lake operates two high grade underground mines at some of the lowest cash costs in the sector, whereas Detour operates a single, low grade bulk tonnage open pit mine at comparatively higher costs.
KL has a strong balance sheet and is well positioned for increased growth. The recent dip after acquisition is more emotional IMO. Once things settle out, I expect KL to continue to grow strongly.
