PFE may need to buy or partner other companies to get more in the pipeline.

I guess they couldn't tell from looking at the chemical structure or their earlier preclinical or clinical data that this would bomb.

Still, cheaper to halt it now than to pull it off the market later, as MRK did with Vioxx.
