#45539 RE: VERAX #45528

November 20th is the date that the newly nominated FDA Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn will be interviewed by the Senate HELP Committee — this is his Senate Confirmation Hearing

https://www.help.senate.gov/hearings/nomination-of-stephen-m-hahn-md-to-serve-as-commissioner-of-food-and-drugs

The most pressing issues for Congress and the FDA right now are the vaping crisis, e-cigarettes, and CBD Regulation

Those topics are going to be brought up several times during the hearing

Dr. Hahn hasn’t spoken publicly about CBD yet

So this will be the first time that we get to hear his thoughts about CBD in America

Most important to us are any remarks that he may make on the timetable for some regulatory clarity, most likely to come first in the form of enforcement discretion

Dr. Gottlieb has stated several times publicly that Pure CBD Products would be the only products permitted under the first federal policy for CBD

Dr. Gottlieb is ready to do this now

Unfortunately, he left the FDA in April, so he isn’t making the final call on this

But Dr. Hahn will be, assuming he gets confirmed

Given what I’m reading about the Dems fear of having Interim Commissioner Dr. Giroir in there for any considerable amount of time, it looks like Dr. Hahn is a pretty heavy favorite to be confirmed — this is Trump’s handpicked guy

The farmers and rural voters are a very important voting block for the Republican Party, but particularly for Trump and Mitch in 2020

And the farmers love the idea and opportunity of hemp, but they are going to need to see the type of increased demand that could only come from national sales to really make 2020 a big success for them

There is also a ton of money on the sidelines waiting to be thrown at a national CBD industry

Look at all the celebrities marketing CBD right now

It’s not just actors and actresses

It’s athletes

It’s singers

It’s reality TV stars

And that’s with a completely unregulated industry with no clear legal framework for OTC CBD products

So many factors are in our favor for at least a partial resolution to the nebulous regulatory picture

The only resistance remaining at this point is the FDA

The FDA works at the behest of Congress

If Dr. Gottlieb never left, it seems like we would have already gotten some regulatory clarity, based on his multiple TV interviews and his editorial in the WP

Unfortunately, Dr. Sharpless was a lame duck, so he’s been more of a placeholder until the guy that Trump really wants can come in

And that guy is Dr. Hahn

Let’s see what he has to say on 11/20/19

In the meantime, I’ve posted some DD on Dr. Giroir and Dr. Hahn on my board
