SCE feeling threatened?

But despite receiving its stamp of approval from the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners in August 2018, work on the 2.3-megawatt plant has been halted. The reason? The plant would produce far more power than necessary for Toyota’s local operations, which FuelCell plans to sell to the local utility, SCE, as a way of recovering its investment in the facility. But SCE is clutching its coin purse.

SCE politically very vulnerable?

Power company says it is likely responsible for starting one of the most destructive fires in California history

(CNN)Southern California Edison has acknowledged that it may be responsible for starting last year's Woolsey Fire following an investigation by a fire department, the company said in a statement.

"Absent additional evidence, SCE believes it is likely that its equipment was associated with the ignition of the Woolsey Fire," the statement said.

The Woolsey Fire, which started nearly a year ago on November 8, destroyed more than 1,600 structures, injured three firefighters and killed three people as it raged near Malibu. It became one of the most destructive fires in the state, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, known as Cal Fire. A burn scar from the fire was captured by NASA's Terra satellite.

An investigation report from the Ventura County Fire Department said that SCE's electrical equipment caused the fire, according to the statement. The report is under a protective order as part of litigation over the Woolsey Fire, and SCE is not authorized to release more of the report, the company said.

The company said it did not find evidence of downed electrical wires at the suspected origin point of the fire, but it did report an outage on its electrical system near that point and found a pole support wire close to an electrical wire that was energized before that reported outage.

Two years ago, I said that the plant wouldn't function.

Any state or country (Germany) using Economic Dispatch for Power Plant scheduling has a Hydrogen Fuel Cell LAST on the list !

This is really bad news. This proves that Fuels Cell can't compete with other alternatives.

Seems like this will flop politically

"How many people in California went without power last month, and you want to say no to hydrogen and bio-renewable gas, RIGHT HERE ?"

California is running out of nuclear plants also, and their hydro-electric is backed-up full of silt.

Something's gotta give or it will go dark

The Long Beach project is a FAILURE on several levels.
1.) FCEL can't use biogas successfully, meaning the power plant is not Green.

2.) The power costs are too high for economic dispatch, meaning the power produced is too expensive.

Yes I caught that but as one person mentioned on stocktwits this will bring a lot of attention the fuel cell energy and make them look good. Their plant is too efficient creating too much power for the Toyota project. Ultimately it will get approved because California is dying for it and Toyota is the biggest automobile manufacturer in the world. All they need to do is compromise a little bit on the price of the electricity.
