One thing is a must for the COO and that is an in depth understanding/knowledge of the technology with an ability to convey that knowledge in a simple yet competent fashion. FV did not strike me as such. MS had more on the ball then FV. CYGX needs someone that will make Malcolm look more like FV was.
Contacts in the industry will also be crucial. Like you said Marcus a rolodex chocked full of names would be nice for both the COO and the CFO.
