Clearly Intel can produce cheaper than AMD.
I don't agree with this statement once you factor in corporate overhead. Last time I looked, AMD had a lower cost per employee.
I know of no law that would prevent Intel from dropping their prices to a point where they would still be profitable yet AMD could not match them without facing a quick bankruptcy.
That is true. Monopolies are perfectly legal. However, as it was explained so neatly by the Appeals court in the Microsoft case, monopolies run under a different set of laws and their behavior in the marketplace has definite limits as compared to non-monoplies.
Intel does seem to avoid being classed as a monopoly.
