AG Barr’s Speech To Notre Dame Rips The Mask Off The Progressive Agenda

Why do we like William Barr? Because he is a true public servant… here because he wants to be here, not because he has anything he needs to prove or gain.

Barr, from the beginning, was openly thinking about character, legacy and the sort of America he was leaving to future generations.

He’s not about flash-and-dazzle. He’s about substance.

He’s already risen to levels of personal success. He knew before he ever accepted the post that anyone accepting a role in the Trump administration would be vilified and go through the wringer. But he took it anyway.

As expected, he’s being demonized in the press — which could be taken to indicate that he’s looking under the right rocks and making the right people nervous.

If you want a glimpse of who he is as a person and what he thinks, he pulls back the curtain a little in his speech to Notre Dame.

Judging by the outrage in the hostile press, he’s said a lot of things that rattle some chains that have desperately needed some rattling for a long time.

We have a short video clip:

Secularists and their allies have marshaled all the forces of mass communication, popular culture, the entertainment industry, and academia in an unremitting assault on religion & traditional values." pic.twitter.com/YaYhUeOWIB

Among the militant progressives are many so-called ‘progressives’, but where is the progress? We are told we are living in a post-Christian era, but what has replaced the Judeo-Christian moral system? What is it that can fill the spiritual void in the hearts of the individual person? And what is the system of values that can sustain human social life? The fact is that no secular creed has emerged capable of fulfilling the role of religion.

This is not decay. This is organized destruction. Secularists and their allies have marshaled all the forces of mass communication, popular culture, the entertainment industry, and academia in an unremitting assault on religion & traditional values

Predictably, the left is freaking out, citing separation of Church and state, pooh-poohing the idea that religious belief has any useful role in a modern culture at all.

But they have missed his key point: no secular creed has emerged capable of fulfilling the role of religion. What role? The one in the preceding sentence.

We don’t have the full speech available, but we can infer some things from its critics.

Mother Jones — somewhere to left of even the Daily Beast and Salon — though predictably critical, offered some helpful quotes giving further context:

In his address Friday, Barr thundered against what he described as a “moral upheaval.” “Virtually every measure of social pathology continues to gain ground,” he said. “Along with the wreckage of the family we are seeing record levels of depression and mental illness, dispirited young people, soaring suicide rates, increasing numbers of alienated young males, an increase in senseless violence and the deadly drug epidemic.”

Barr pointed particularly to public schools, according to an account of the speech from the Indianapolis Star. “Ground zero for these attacks on religion are the schools,” Barr said. “To me this is the most serious challenge to religious liberty today.” There is decades of Supreme Court caselaw removing religion from public schools because the First Amendment bans the government from establishing or giving primacy to a religion. — MJ

MJ obviously means to be critical of Barr’s assessment, failing to see any possible connection between those issues.

Barr, on the other hand, sees them as interconnected.

If you think Barr’s so far off, prove his counterfactual.

Show us where the Leftist utopias in America where this ideology has actually taken root. Where families became stronger. Where the poor were lifted up. Where the homeless problem has gotten better, not worse. Where, by any metric, life is vastly improved for the very people they claim to be champions of… show us.

If not, Barr’s key point about no secular creed stands unchallenged.

If you liked what BARR had to say, you’ll love what our own Doug Giles has to say about faith and freedom.

Check out his daily 2-minute radio blast, and his Saturday evening show — details on his website.

He also tag-teams with Rich Witmer in the Warriors and Wildmen show, bringing the masculine vibe back to the Christian Church.

And his book on the topic…

Rules For Radical Christians is not a survival devotional designed to help the young Christian adult limp through life. Rather, it is a road-tested, dominion blueprint that will equip the young adult with leadership skills and sufficient motivation to rise to a place of influence in an overtly non-Christian culture. Rules For Radical Christians gives the reader the keys to become strategically equipped to move into an anti-theistic environment and effectively influence it for the glory of God.
