The whole idea of ripple is to eliminate the need for nostro accounts so that the small and medium sized institutions can participate in global commerce. If the nostro accounts stay in place than the small and medium institutions still have to pay Swift the fees to use their services since swift provides the collateral.
JPM and swift are scared because ripple is making their crossboarder services obsolete. Even if Swift can speed up the process with bandaids on a legacy system, they still are going to charge the same fees!
