When I read this on Thursday it gave me hope! Then it started unraveling and I had the exact same thoughts. Is it this easy to mess with legitimate new reports...all of the previous press releases. I had the exact same questions you just ask hit me upside the head! Someone posted that there was a program that could do this fairly easy. Some editor of something like that. Not sure and Greenspirit would know way before I ever would! Not all that savy but he surely sounds very knowledgeable!
The post by pennyjunkie if you read it, time to roll whose post was copied states; "This article was the only reason I held shares today, anyone know any more about it?"
The HTML code of most simple websites like news pages are available to anyone. Look at the top of your browser and click "view" then "source". So it's just a matter of copying that code and altering it a bit and then publishing it. It's even easier when you use an Editor Program like Dreamweaver or Frontpage. All you have to do is copy the entire page and paste it into the program, then publish. Literally takes five minutes.
The domain name is tougher to replicate. But as long as you have the sites name somewhere in the link, people are usually fooled.
