This question has always struck in the back of my head since they first mention UW being behind the redesign. I would guess patents are to be filed on the changes and who holds them is an issue since all the changes are not by CCTC employees but others who should have intellectual rights. I would want a cut if it was my idea..

Many of these legal questions existed before the original grant was awarded 2 years ago, so I'm sure they can be quickly answered. It would be very unusual for the state or federal government to take partnership in technologies they've granted money to. If that were the case, the government would co-own any technologies researched at universities or companies co-funded with public funds, which is just about everything. AFAIK, ECED will just be acting as a landlord to those coal researchers taking up residence in their ACPIC lab building... but who knows? They could be part of WNP. The details of byproduct research agreements between the UW and CCTC are unknown.
