If medical, scientific, technological, developments were to adopt an attitude of "Oh, what's the use, whatever we discover/produce/invent will be replaced in the future", we would still be living in caves sitting on our hands.

Having said that I am not a fan of crypto at this moment because unless quantum computing, (interesting article, thanks for posting) or any other technology, can also provide a 100% safe and secure global internet infrastructure (both physical and virtual) guaranteed to never go down or be compromised it is entirely too risky
