Disagree. Think the point mfp is trying to make is that once you say something publicly (whether on Twitter) or anywhere else, you need to follow up. Otherwise, at least some of your credibility is lost!
You don't want to make this a habit, because the more credibility you loose the harder it is to recover some back.
I own a company, that NEVER says anything (well almost never) that it hasn't already done or is doing currently. Its just bad business practice imho.
