Once a stock is "doubled down" can the position be frozen ?

Yes it can. It won't cost a trade, essentially all your doing is selling that stock which you can do at anytime on any stock.

Can it be traded into another stock ?

Yes it can. Although the whole position will be transferred to the stock your trading it into. Hence once DD it cannot be split apart, but other than that it can be traded into any qualifying stock you don't own in the contest. Hope this helps.
