The "short and distort" concept was invented by a guy called Gary Swancey. He was a penny stock promoter who posted at Silicon Investor, Raging Bull, and IHub. He was not a finance professional.
He was a nice guy, though he was almost always misled by management of the companies he promoted. Sadly, he died of a sudden heart attack in 2004.
Short interest in SPRV is 255,559. Not a problem for a stock with 5.5 billion shares outstanding.
