Golfbum, on whiteboxes - that isn't what I meant. When the Athlon was released, some board makers were so afraid of Intel that they shipped Athlon motherboards without identification, and in plain white boxes. This went on for about six months, until momentum for Athlon started to build.

What sgolds was talking about was the first motherboards for the K7 came in white boxes with little or no identification of who the manufacturer was. As far as why they did that has been the source of much speculation...
