The vast majority of oil is not refined. It is used in thousands of oil-based products like plastics and rubber, and even food. And demand keeps increasing for these products, which should indirectly help SSOF.
Oil transport by pipelines do indeed help the cleanliness of the environment, by making truck and rail transport less necessary, especially rail, which uses a massive amount of electricity, which is coal-generated, and which is of course very environmentally unfriendly.
There was a damn good reason Warren Buffett was against the Keystone Pipeline all those years. His BNSF Railway (Burlington Northern Santa Fe) stood to continue raking in hundreds of millions in revenues transporting oil from the Bakken in North Dakota out to both coasts. That craziness all ended around January 20th, 2016 when we said goodbye to the old and in with the new.
Now if only SSOF could get their ducks in a row and take advantage of $64 oil.
