Ocasio-Cortez can’t wait to get out of DC for the weekend

(If you can't stand the heat... and it's only been three months. She may implode sooner rather than later. Fingers crossed.)

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said Friday that the pressure cooker of Washington, DC, is so intense that she can’t wait to get home to the Big Apple on the weekends.

“I’m like, ‘Get me out of here!’” by Thursdays, when lawmakers traditionally begin their three-day weekends to chill and mingle with donors and even constituents.

“It can seriously be the upside down, and I have to come back to my life,” she said at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, a part of which she represents.

Ocasio-Cortez, 29, was taping a town hall meeting at the school that was set for broadcast at 8 p.m. Friday on MSNBC.

“For me, it’s surreal, obviously,” she said of serving in Congress and gaining the national spotlight, not all of it flattering.

But, she said, she keeps grounded by getting back to the Bronx.

“I go to my same bodega guy, and that’s what I always go back to. It is literally the grounding force for my life,” she said.

She also touted her commitment to the Green New Deal — a proposal the GOP derides and that even makes many in her own party jittery.

“This issue is not just about our climate. First and foremost we need to save ourselves, period. There will be no future for the Bronx … if we don’t address this issue urgently,” she told host Chris Hayes.
