They've been offering paternity testing for a long time (more than 6 months). It started soon after the marketing agreement with FTDNA.

They are already set up to do y-dna testing so why not? It cost them nothing extra as they don't do any paid advertising for it.

If DNAP is working towards becoming an acredited DNA test facility, they may as well perform paternity testing. While it certainly lacks the lurid attraction of forensic investigation it is a huge market easily eclipsing the fairly minor forensic space.

For an insight into the size of the market, (as well as the significant number of entrenched competitors) one only has to perform a google search.
