The INTERCEPT red blood cell system is in clinical development.

YES, "Not very bright" is one option for sure. Also too trusting that authentic honest governance was at the helm, also that a serious Canadian doctor/researcher was leading the way and kept things on the up and up. Only few of the wise saw the enormous potholes, if not the sinkholes springing up all around.

Holding onto something that you own is effectively investing in it, so if your claim below is valid, then it applies to all bag holders. "People who invested in the company after the blood purification fiasco just weren't very bright."

No competitor bid, so it likely has no value. Could be due to other competitors new tech forcing out the weak.
