In Michigan communities can "opt-in".....

or "opt-out" of the State's Marijuana Program. If a community chooses to "opt-in", i.e. allow cannabis facilities in their community, they can then restrict the kinds of MJ business they allow in their community. They could choose to allow any or all of the following types of businesses: 1) Growers; 2) Producers; 3) Testing Facilities; 4) Secure Transporters; and/or 5) Provisioning Centers (Dispensaries). This one is about a week old, and it graphically illustrates the situation in and around Romulus.

Look in the Center of the map and you can clearly see Romulus. The area to the immediate west is colored red. It has "opted-out". No cannabis businesses are allowed to open in that area. The areas to the east, south and north are all colored gray because these communities have neither opted-in or opted-out as yet. They have yet to meet as a community to consider the issues, vote on opting-in, and have not undertaken the arduous process of writing local ordinances for these types of business.

You are correct, Romulus appears on the records to be in Wayne county but these are local community decisions not county wide decisions. Its not up to the County, to "opt-in" or "opt-out" that decision rests with the local townships, cities and villages.

What we see here is a situation where one or two townships and/or other governmental units in the county have opted-in, while the bulk of the county has yet to decide. BTW thanks for pointing this out. I did some checking and found what we have is a situation where the City of Wayne opted-in, but Romulus and the rest of the county have not acted. Here's a list of wayne County communities that have "opted-in".

- Detroit
- Inkster
- Garden City
- River Rouge
- Wayne

The other location mentioned was the an area farther west near Marshall, Mi. I think this was the first locale to be hinted at. Here's where they stand. The "opted-in" and...

This one is different than others. Each facility needs to be a mile apart but no mention of schools, churches, etc… There is also no provisioning centers allowed, but the city did reserve the right to amend the act to meet the market demand if/when adult recreational use is permitted.
