A few things to note, Si3N4 bearings produce significantly less wear than MoP. 2nd, ZTA CoC may not suffer from osteolysis like MoP but it causes significant inflammation in the surrounding tissue and potentially increases metal ion release. Lastly, Si3N4 coating on femoral stem/acetabular cup can potentially help reduce osteolysis response by inhibiting Osteoclast and stimulating osteoblasts.
I feel like a broken record here. For whatever reason management abondoned CoC Si3N4 in favor of CoP. Si3N4 CoP, in theory, should provide better biological results than Biolox CoC and potentially increased longevity. Thats what matters.
Precision medicine is on the horizon.. They will know who should and who should not be exposed to potentially toxic substances. I suspect the market segment will be large enough that not losing those potential clients and added safety in the form of biologic protection and improved adhesion will devour any possible advantage to sticking with 20th century tech.
