One of the hidden secrets in the EV industry is that there is insufficient power at electric outlets at home to charge the electric vehicle in reasonable time. Most homes have level 1 charging which means about 18-36 hours of charge time for vehicles that commute 100-150 miles a day.
Polar fast charger concept is to provide Level 2, Level 3 fast charging using natural gas as fuel source, which can reduce the charge time to less than 2 hours. Since most homes, small commercial offices have natural gas connection, Polar fast chargers can be economically installed at these facilities. In addition most utilities have punitive penalties if ev's are charged during off-peak hours or daily usage of electric power exceeds certain thresholds. At my home the off-peak charge is $0.52/kwhr which is about 4 times the normal rate.
Another way to mitigate the natural fuel cost is to use the excess heat generated by Polar generator to heat pool, spas, rooms, laundry, shower etc. This distributes the cost of the natural gas across other functions that reduces electric utility bill. Polar has been shipping these systems for decades that utilize excess heat for ancillary functions.
With respect to noise, Polar product literature indicates there leadership in noise abatement technologies that meet local ordinances and regulations related to inner city generator applications. Most inner city installations are on roof tops where local city ordinances and regulations of telecom customers are stringent towards noise pollution.
Polar ev chargers have been used by large automakers during the last decade for fast charging at outdoor test sites. I also recall where they shipped few units to AAA for emergency roadside assistance. I think that is a great idea, with ev population on road growing in double digits every year, Polar natural gas fast charger can be ideal solution to assist commuters. Sometimes good ideas reach market a little early, but I hope this renewed emphasis on natural gas fast ev charging opens new markets for Polar.
It will be exciting to monitor progress on this reintroduction.
