In hip I think Z's goal is to maintain market share. Developing next gen hip & knee implants allows it to maintain that market. However on the Spine and Dental front it barely has market share with plenty room for growth. Acquiring Si3N4 also allows Z to grow revenue outside of its traditional product line. This seems like the logical move to me.
