Launching innovative products, if that's what Zimmer has planned, will feed fundamentals. Launching more of the same will leave Zimmer losing more market share.

Of couse Zimmer could always buy up mid tier players to keep sales going. However that's just smoke and mirrors.

Consider for a moment Zimmers acquisition of LDR compared to Strykers acquisition of K2M. Stryker already has porous titanium it markets so it certainly sisnt need the main IP. However K2M has very loyal surgeon owners that would likely be very loyal after buyout. Therefore stryker basically bought future sales.
Zimmer acquired LDR for MOBI as it didnt have an artificial disc. Sales wasnt what Zimmer was after as evidenced by declining spine revenue.
