As long as you don't commit multiple 'good faith' violations, you should have buying power immediately after you sell shares in something as long as those stocks you are selling have sat for a couple days in that stock.

If you sell something you literally just bought, most likely, you wont have the buying power because those funds are not settled.

Hopefully, this explains everything.

if you don't have funds, you have to wait +2 for funds to clear in a cash account. A margin account can free up funds more efficiently as it relates to settled funds...
