If using Si3N4 on poly reduces metal corrosion compared to ZTA on ZTA then Si3N4 on poly is in fact biologically safer. Zta & poly.liners induce a similar inflammatory reponse in surrounding tissue. A Si3N4 coating on femoral stem could potentially help prevent osteolysis that occurs from this inflammation through osteoclast inhibition.
