You are confusing short volume with short interest. Short volume has nothing to do with actual short positions, it is simply a market being made. USMJ has less than $180 in actual short positions. To short it, there are 200,000 shares available at IB, and that is likely the total available everywhere, you would need to have cash on hand, equity reserve of $500,000.00. For that risk and tie up, you could make a maximum of $140 less fees and interest...the math is slightly better for something like PURA at .11, but it's still the math. MM's can short it though, and some likely will if it tests and fails .13, also a market being made...IB has 1,200,000 to borrow for PURA, likely the only retail broker offering borrows, good to watch to assess what's happening IMO
