Depends on the ore. The most amenable ores (typically oxide) will recover in the 80's. Other ores may not recover much at all (i.e. sulfide ores, or presence of other interfering metals like copper or manganese). That's why responsible mining companies do extensive metallurgical testing prior to mining.

Regardless, if they couldn't recover gold using standard cyanide techniques, what makes you think it is a good idea to bring in another method that is even less cost-effective?
