Wrong in what way? The US Government is operating as is all of America. Folks who hire on for any Federal job know it is a priviledge, not a right, and that they sign employment docs stating that in events such as the current "shut down" nonessential employees may at times be furloughed and then brought back in with all backpay recived in full. They will lose nothing... try being an Independent US small business owner or contractor and see how the other half works out there...

Right now, many are getting unemployment temporary or even other part time jobs, but nobody will die or waste away. They all need to understand what they signed up for wanting a Federal job, as myself working in past to Govt entities, this all is known going in, just like the military, so nobody needs to be crying or whining out there as in such cases, unless they didn't managed their money wisely or saved any for such times, there are AMPLE jobs all over needing people out there..

Problem is, like State jobs, too often, folks think they are entitled and deserve everything for nothing but there are employment terms. Like when I worked at NORAD and elsewhere as Fed Contractor, regarding financing needs, best I could ever get was a letter saying I was employed but no guaranteed for how long or term as events can alter such Govt contractors. In my case as Govt contractor, I made a high base hourly wage, then received 2nd weekly check as a "fringe", which essentially I could spend anyway I like. But it was a tradeoff basically for the benefit costs the unions factor in for their employees (medical, dental, vac pay, etc), which for nonunion GOvt contractors like I was, you could spend that check for such similar benefits or pocket it. it all kept the union lobbyists at bay and deals to federal Govt then (late 90's), so union would not get mad seeing the nonunion contractors paid equal amount, etc... Most pocketed it along with their hourly wage as you made more $$ than you would ever make on outside for any private/public company... Even damn banks didn't understand this as they see everything "one size fits all". It is how it works. People and media need to STOP their whining .
