Its da algos. plain n simple. they been runnin rampant for a year now. as we all know Wall Street has to have at least one big 'behind the scenes' scam going on- they needed something to replace the mortgage-backed securities / derivatives scam. they found that in ETF's and machine-based trading. At least the SEC put a brake on the ETN derivative scam they were trying to push out.
then just pump the usual manipulative "news" out the usual retail channels (world is ending / sky is falling ----> world is rosy / all is well). get the sheep to fall in line.
new wild west. OTC seems normal and tame in comparison.
