Not all silicates are created equal smoker so unless the SiO2 becomes HSiO4 in an aqueous solution, for example, it is not as biocompatible as Si3N4 which does release HSiO4 (Orthosilicic Acid) in an aqueous enviornment. Slight but important distinction.
