Silicone, by contrast, is a synthetic polymer made up of silicon, oxygen and other elements, most typically carbon and hydrogen. Silicone is generally a liquid or a flexible, rubberlike plastic, and has a number of useful properties, such as low toxicity and high heat resistance. It also provides good electrical insulation.

Silicone may contain Silicon but that doesn't mean its the same. Its not the Silicon that causes the immune response.

Your comment about the industry fearing Si3N4 exposure of the various things ive been posting about sounds valid enough. That seems to correlate with Sonny's statememt about industry playing not to lose rather than playing to win. It seems as though Zimmer is playing to win as indicated by Hanson. If Zimmer is stepping up that'll force the other to as well.

With media converage increasing and FDA adopting new policies that'll just aid in pressuring industry players to join or fall behind.

One way or another Si3N4 will be adopted.

Fortunately for future patients, Zimmer appears to be in a position where it both needs Si3N4 for its future and is positioned with the ability to utilize it.
