Smoker, the body already uses orthosilic acid to grow bone. This is a natural process. Dr. Bal et al has already demonstrated that its orthosilic acid that is released from the surface of the implant. This has also been confirmed by other sources. Silicone is a synthetic substance and would be treated by the body as a potential foreign substance. Naturally some people will have an immune response.

Silicone is not the same thing as Silicon.

In short, silicon is a naturally occurring chemical element, whereas silicone is a synthetic substance.

Should the industry rush to implant people with multiple Si3N4 implants simply because its more natural than metals? As with everything too much of anything is bad and so caution should be exercised when implanting multiple products into a patient.

Years ago I had bunion surgery. They put in a single screw.

It drove me nuts.. pain, swelling. It took me several months to convince them to remove it.

After about 10 years I noticed that most of the swelling was finally gone.

I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
