@Markus64 With a CGM you rarely need to measure with a finger stick.

I don't see a date on that article and it is out of date. Freestyle Libre for example hasn't needed to be calibrated with a finger stick since at least last March when I got mine.

Calibrating SugarBeat with a single finger stick measurement is an option that Type 1s can used to improve the accuracy.

Nothing is accurate. If you lined up all the test meters you could lay your hands on and fed them from the same drop of blood you'd see surprisingly different figures on each. So I think it's ironic that a finger stick should improve the accuracy of a CGM.

With a CGM you rarely need to use a finger stick. If the CGM tells you that you're lowish and falling you are supposed to check your blood to manage or prevent a hypo episode. The CGM figure is delayed by 5 to 15 minutes from your actual blood figure since the CGM measures interstitial fluid and not blood. In this situation it's wise to measure with a finger stick since that gives an immediate value.

In the UK you have to measure before driving because that's the law and the law hasn't been changed despite a finger stick giving you no idea whatsoever about the direction your blood sugar is moving in. I hear that they were about to remove that rule for Libre users but a powerful competitor who makes tens of millions out of test strips in the UK each year "persuaded" them not to. It's a vicious market place.

For the population with diabetes the CGM is as big an invention as the smartphone was to the public in general.
