This what I found Carl, doing a little DD this morning.
It looks as if the FDA has updated their GRAS certification process (link Below)

I think it is an important certification, regardless. Specifically, that they (as far as I can tell, they alone) have made the effort to procure this prior to the absolute need for it. One of the reasons I have such high confidence in this company and continue to invest in it.

I don't have any inside information, however, when KO did a self affirmation cert, we always followed it up immediately with the federal cert. Since CVSI knew importance of GRAS Certification to begin with, my guess is that they are already engaged. The guidelines we used were to always meet and exceed federal levels, so it was always a slam dunk when the feds came in...M

Carl - the research study was in 2017. The results submitted to Journal Toxicology in jan 2018 and accepted to publish in late spring. I hope CVSI has their self-affirmed data in to FDA right around then. FDA could not comment until legal and it takes 6-12 months for them to acknowledge the app (all according to their website and other DD I posted the other night). So I think we could hear from FDA early in 2019 Giving thumbs up to CVSI research. Hopefully a week after we uplist

The second level is the full certification from the FDA themselves. I dont think CVSI has not done this one yet, but with the recognized self-affirmed cert they are that much closer to it. If I am not mistaken, the only thing that needs to happen is for the FDA to recognize the self-affirmed cert and its research and thats it. I do not believe that this has happened yet but I could be wrong. Does anyone out there know for sure?

I suspected an FDA GRAS certification had to wait until Hemp and CBD was made federally legal in the Farm Bill before they could pursue it.
