Thank you for taking the time to reach out to me with your views regarding the 2018 Farm Bill. It is good to hear from you and I appreciate the opportunity to respond. Dear Mr...... On June 21, 2018, the Farm Bill passed by a vote of 213-211. Recognizing the importance of this legislation for Texas farmers and ranchers, I voted in favor of the bill. That being said, I also believe that the well-being of our farmers should not be hitched to a welfare program that has grown unchecked for far too long. The entitlement reforms authorized in this bill are a good start, but we must do better to continue to address cost-laden programs that discourage putting Americans back to work.
I am hopeful that Congress will come to a solution that works for our nation’s farmers and does right by the indigent, both in a fiscally responsible manner. Please know that I will keep your opinions in mind as the House considers solutions in the future.
Again, thank you for reaching out to me. I truly appreciate hearing your opinions and look forward to serving you in the future.
