OT: Canadian Royalty Trusts

Since they will pay much higher taxes, their dividends are likely to be cut, thereby reducing the yield.

OT re Canadian energy trusts

It was a panic sell, and I think it was a buying opportunity. I dumped mine for investments with less legal risk overhang, though -- the money I had in those shares wasn't for speculating and I thought the activity of the Canadian officials was reckless and offensive.

You may recall a while ago they floated the idea of limiting foreign ownership of CETs and caused a similar disruption, then abandoned it. This could be a similar opportunity that has no actual downside, just noise signifying nothing.

I bought a fund paying a higher dividend and not having the Canadians withhold 15% of the dividend until you file a bunch of junk with the Canadian gov't. I'm done trusting Canada with my wife's money, I think. I will be looking at New Zealand, for what it's worth.

Now, back to our regular programming.

Take care,
