I didn't write "don't we need that space" rhetorically. I was referring to the company's own words in the 10Q. They said they intend to use that space - "all, or most of it" - and explain why. They are not, quite contrary to your comment, "set to use CROs whenever possible."
And they didn't say planned studies, they said planned subletting.
What the company wrote makes sense if they miswrote and: 1. "conducting" really should have been "preparing for future" OR 2. "conducting" really should have been "analyzing existing" (weak) OR 3. "clinical" really should have been "pre-clinical" (eg, K pill)
And to be clear, "studies" is not different from trials. They use "studies" for trials repeatedly, including earlier in that very paragraph.
I asked the company for clarification, pointing out the company is not currently "conducting clinical studies". If I hear back I'll let you know.
