The thing is it was an accident or he would have done an update/upgrade seamlessly without interruption.
When professionals do an update/upgrade they will either do it seamlessly and when it switches it works and works well. If it doesn't they have a back up with a notification of what happened and what is going on.
Then they have it back online in a small matter of time.
No, this has the earmarks of Ed's hands doing everything himself because he doesn't think anybody else is good enough to do what he would do...
